About Crooked Creek

I grew up on a 300 acre farm in coastal North Carolina, and I spent much of that time wandering around in the woods and swamps of the area. I've always had a fascination with the beauty and intricate complexity of the living world, which drove me to study biology at UNCW and then spend the next couple of decades propagating plants as a hobby.

In late 2025 I decided to turn that hobby into Crooked Creek Nursery. The goal was to help people put some of the pieces of the natural world back in place. One of the things that I was immediately confronted with was a single question, repeated by many customers; they built an area of native landscape or had one installed... now what?

Native landscapes generally require less care than a conventional turfgrass lawn, but it requires a set of knowledge that is generally lacking in the landscaping industry. So in mid 2026 I started the Native Landscape Care service. The goal is to help your landscape mature and evolve in a beautiful and healthy way, and increase your knowledge and appreciation of what is happening just outside your door.
