"Rose Mallow" - Hibiscus moscheutos

Growth Habit: Medium to large shrub

Water Requirement: High. This is a marshland plant, but can survive and even thrive in a garden setting if properly watered.

Sun Requirement: Full sun

Lifespan: 10 to 50 years, however the stalks die back to the ground each winter.

One of our largest native flowers with blooms up to 8 inches wide. Flowers are generally white with a red center, but sometimes pink. Grows to 6 to 8 feet tall during the growing season and dies back to the ground during the winter. The immature pods (when picked before getting too tough) can be cooked and eaten like okra.
