"Sweet Joe-Pye Weed" - Eutrochium purpureum

Growth Habit: Multi-stemmed vertical growth in clumps up to 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. First year growth does not always have the characteristic whorl of leaves around the main stem.

Water Requirement: Moderate to high. In nature these plant are often found near streams and rivers, and in the built landscape they find purchase on the banks of ditches.

Sun Requirement: Partial shade to full sun

Lifespan: Decades

Interesting whorls of leaves around a central stalk, capped with a massive inflorescence of tiny pink flowers in the late summer to early fall. A striking plant that can be used to introduce a vertical aspect to your native landscape design.

Enjoys being near water, but can tolerate dryer sites once established.
